gathered from coincidence
I am interested in coincidence and have decided to start collecting them. The last post has firmed my resolve to do so. how can it be that thinking about something or someone so often results in their appearance or a reference to them shortly afterwards/
I want to make a book of coincidences. ( i bet you were already thinking about this).
also check out Francis the bird blog and too much of nothing.

Circles
Here's a theme/topic to get things started; The Circle.
This work is a series of photographs of circles taken in the Art building at RMIT. They range from teapots to rubbish bins to bottle tops, as long as they were circles they were included. These images were then placed on the wall in a grid shape. Instead of cutting out circles in my canvas as I did in 1st semester, I created these as positive shapes. They are a document of a time and place.

catalyst
If anyone begins an interaction on this site which is loosely based on something that interests them i.e. myth, archeology, location ,fashion,..or whatever we will collect them for exhibition or book project. Just start blogging.

Great idea. How about you 1/ post something on the main blog page to indicate an interest and then 2/ start another blog about work related to mythology as link which i will put into a special section at the side. Or Perhaps think of some project such as general images of a mythological nature or we can tag as belonging to that catergory.

Hello,
How about thinking up a loose project definition (maybe it is mythology related? or maybe there is a word or a theme that we can choose and interpret freely?), putting that out as a suggestion to the participants of this blog, and then posting the resulting work here, to give this blog a kick start? Doing a week or month long projects like that within this blog might even be a future catalyst for a virtual (or other) exhibition, and a somekind of 'framework' (idea, theme, thread) might help people posting their work and link it all together. If the posts are labelled under each theme, that will also build a good archive over time on different topics.
Just a thought :)

Hi from *CYNAMööN*
I have worked before with photography, three of them, part of my Moonee Valley Tarot series are currently hanging on the walls of BSG for the Picture This 09 contest.
For my masters research I am working with the sense of Touch, since I find a striking difference in how interaction through this sense is far less here than in Mexico and other latin cultures.
I recently had an exhibition at the Rooftop Bar called "OutsideIn. An exhibition on what you can touch but can't see... and what you can see but can't touch"
(Click on the titles for more info and pictures)

I'm very happy to be part of this community, all the posts are very interesting and so diverse, I'm pretty sure that sharing and exchanging ideas with each other we can come up with great things!

It appears that people are adding the their personal blogs which are linked to this one and it amy be time to set up some art projects associated with these interactions. Any one interested? may be set up a new project based blog linked to the mythological studio for each idea?

Fragments

Hey everyone I'm Rob from Melbourne, doing painting and drawing, exploring fragments of the everyday in my work.
By the way, I'm about to head off to Japan for a few weeks, so if anyone got places to recommend in the osaka / fukuoka / nagasaki area that would be awesome. Hope to post some interesting stuff from there anyway.

Abandoned villages in Hong Kong - my research...
I'm a ceramics student in Hong Kong, currently digging into some abandoned villages in the rural areas (more pics on Flickr.com, search for Wong Chuk Yeung). Not sure how these will translate into ceramic objects just yet... but will post my progress and will be very happy to receive feedback!
Anyone else researching place/space/history/archaeology etc? Would be good to share some ideas...

Thank you for the opportunity to submit to this blog. I am Richard Pilkington, a student of Sound at RMIT in Melbourne and I am looking forward to future posts and the chance to meet and maybe work with other artists wherever they may be in the world.
Sadly, it seems I can not upload sound files, maybe a link to my work in the future...?
Trash or Treasure
When is 'Hard Rubbish' trash or treasure? Last week was rich pickings for my latest art work. I collected related construction pieces, mostly toys. It really is amazing the things people throw out. As digital images they work, don't know yet if I'll create an installation with them. I'm wondering what kind of hard rubbish is collected in other countries?
stilt village Tai O

Hi James,
this a recent photo from a fishing village called Tai O..now a tourist attraction,..on an island in Hong Kong ....//sometimes think if i had to design a modern city it might look like this...I have often found it interesting how the observed neccessities of living in an unfamiliar environment become the aesthetic experience of the tourist....speaking as a tourist of course
hello

Hello and thank you for creating this blog.
Looking forward to being a part of it and seeing what happens.
I'm a new jeweller, an old designer, an occasinal photographer and a sunday poet of sorts. My oldest memories are from a place where stones appear on ice and where air is blue. Now, I live in Melbourne and am getting to know this beautiful, cloudy city by walking around – whenever not at the bench at RMIT (G&S, 2nd year).
Cheers & catch up soon
Inari
PS.
Have just spotted a similar blog to this one (where artists from Latin America and Europe communicate and work together, towards a symposium in Mexico City in 2010), Walking the Gray Area. Some interesting thoughts there about being an artist in a global system; home, place, disconnection; creating.
Hello there,Greetings from Wellington N.Z. I'll be keeping you in touch with the interventions that I create. My work looks at ideas of illusion and actuality to reveal notions of home.
Ill be posting recent interventions that I have created as well as my influences.
Look forward to blogging with everybody.
Cheers

greetings and some info and abstract rust

Been a really good response so far from people interested in participating ( or just curious) and from a very broad range of locations and discipline areas.
I have emailed an invitation to all who contacted me to start blogging. Respond and I will send the password to you.
At present because mythological studio is in an early stage can we just post whatever we think is interesting to us. As the blog coordinator I really want to stay out of it abit as it is supposed to be student directed site for the purpose of general contact and more specifically collaborative directed online projects, exhibitions etc. It is up to how the participants interact as to how this will develop. Personally, I see it as a great opportunity to expand practices and to work cross-disciplinarily and internationally. It can also act as a diaristic online contact site for a whole range of images, ideas etc.
Lots of artists are using collaborative blogsites these days, as well as solo blog sites, and I think it is an interesting way to operate outside of the mainstream in art and in developing artist connections and exhibitions. I will add to the links page any artist sites I get so mythological studio will also act as link point for artist who have their own blogs as well.( As participants you can do that too.) The whole project is an ongoing one and not short term. I am hoping it will run its due course but that that may take years and develop into an extended internet artist contact site, magazine, exhibition hub...whatever.
Don't feel you have to put on artwork if you don't want... it could be just photos of stuff sourced from the web or taken yourself that you find interesting, curious or wish to get response to. Hope to expend the list of contributors again soon. There are about 30 at present and these is room for 70 more.
Any theme is ok...where are you...what is it like...location, place...any writing is ok too....there is not any blog police EXCEPT as the coordinator I will have to remove materials that may be considered slander, racist or sexist. ( just place things in context).I am not imaging many probems there but I do have to give that notice to you all.....phil e
It is great to hear from you all. I wills end you all a password and you can start blogging away at the mythological studio.
p.s.I can help if you have probs finding your way around the blogsite...email me
