Abandoned villages in Hong Kong - my research...

I'm a ceramics student in Hong Kong, currently digging into some abandoned villages in the rural areas (more pics on Flickr.com, search for Wong Chuk Yeung). Not sure how these will translate into ceramic objects just yet... but will post my progress and will be very happy to receive feedback!

Anyone else researching place/space/history/archaeology etc? Would be good to share some ideas...

  1. I have an interest in the acoustics of abandoned urban spaces, how they sound now vs the sounds that would have occupied them in their used life. It is interesting to see what acoustic properties buildings have and wether or not the aural environment was a consideration in their design.

  2. Hi Zoe, I've added my latest DIG in 'Hidden Treasure'. This is actually about urban abandonment, re our throwaway society. I've only done one semester of ceramics, but this image of urban rubbish could work maybe as a bas-relief. I was thinking about abandoned villages or towns in Australia, and unless you go to the outback, the ones that come to mind are the abandoned gold-mining towns. Look forward to seeing your work.
